Art Institute

My son Will is taking an Art Appreciation class this semester. One of the course requirements is to visit an art museum, so today Will and I took the train to Chicago to visit the Art Institute. It was a good time.

On the way to the Art Institute, we stopped to see the Chagall mosaic.

Will at the Chagall.

We also stepped into the Palmer House for a few minutes to enjoy the murals on the lobby ceiling.

Monet's Cliff Walk at Pourville.

Seurat's Sunday in the park

Gustave Caillebotte's Paris Street, A Rainy Day (one of my favorites).

Bartolomeo Manfredi's Cupid Chastised. Will is a self-taught authority on mythology: he will probably write his report on this painting.

Edward Hopper's Nighthawks. (I like this one a lot, but my favorite Hopper is Summer Evening which I think is so full of passion. But it's not at the Art Institute.)

I love the Remingtons.

After leaving the Art Institute we walked over to Millenium Park and "The Bean".
