Independence Ghost Town
near Aspen, Colorado
August 24, 2005

While driving through Colorado I came upon Independence Ghost Town. It is located on Hwy 82 between Aspen and Leadville, just below Independence Pass. There's not a whole lot there: it only takes about 20-30 minutes to walk the few trails and see the ruins. The cabins date back to the 1880s. Try to imagine living as a gold miner in cabins such as these at 10,900 feet elevation in the winter. Brrrrr! Hardy stock indeed! The weather wasn't the best for photography. Nevertheless, I thought it was pretty and I hope you do too.
